On Thursday, July 18, 58 Rossmoor Women’s 18ers played in the annual Blue & White tournament. Each foursome was comprised of two two-woman teams, one team playing for the Blue Team and one team playing for the White Team. The two teams played a head-to-head match and were trying to win the most points out of the 18 points available for their larger overall team.
It was a very close battle, with this year’s winners on the White Team winning a grand total of 138.5 as compared to the Blue Team’s total of 131.5. Congratulations to the White Team players, who each received a crisp $5 bill for their efforts.
The biggest news of the day was Nancy Park’s hole-in-one which she shot on Hole 10 using her 25-degree hybrid club from the gold tees. Quite an exciting hole for Park.
Several birdies were shot during the course of the round: Andrea Alpine on Holes 1 and 16, Orene Sanders on Hole 2, Karla Witte on Holes 9 an 18, Judy Leckonby on Hole 10, Sue Yoon on Hole 13, Jayoung Lee on Holes 14 and 15, Theresa Kim on Hole 15, Liz James and Claudia Terry on Hole 16.
Chip-ins were shot by Terry on Holes 9 and 16, Alpine on Hole 16, and Witte on Hole 18.
After the round, lunch of hotdogs and chips and coleslaw was served in the Donner Room and the second General Meeting of the year was held where a financial report was presented, the nominating committee was announced, and other club business was covered. Many thanks to 18ers Captain Toni Snyder for running a smooth meeting and to Jacque Vigil for her excellent managing of the tournament with her professionalism and efficiency. Vigil’s suggestion that next year the 18ers begin a new tradition of having a Blue & Red tournament instead of Blue & White was met with enthusiasm by the attendees.
