Three of Rossmoor’s golf clubs came together on May 5 to play in the
Cinco de Mayo Par-3 Charity Tournament, a fundraising event with
proceeds collected to benefit the Monument Crisis Center. The Crisis
Center is a nonprofit family resource center in Contra Costa County
which offers nutritious food, quality resources and referrals to low-income
families and individuals. The sign-ups for this popular event
maxed out at 142 golfers within the first two weeks of registration.
The players enjoyed a pleasant morning playing the 18 hole Dollar
Ranch and 9 hole Creekside courses. All holes were modified to play
as par threes. One flight played the Creekside course two times
around, and two other flights played on the Stanley Dollar course. A
total of $3,762 was raised for the Monument Crisis Center.
Creekside Flight winners were, first place, Richard Fuller, Laurie
Krelle, Dante Marchetti and Marc Raynor with a score of 91. Second
place was Laura Kim, Gayle Westendorf, Kathy Hunt and Gary Hunt
with a score of 93.Third place was Burke Ferrari, Bob Smith, Joyce
McCann and Karla Witte, score of 97. Fourth place, Susan French,
Lana Yagle, Wayne Leiser, Alan Fitzgerald score of 98; Fifth place: Bill
Broxham, Mike Casey, Fred Kern, Jim Olson (100); Sixth place: Peter
and Jean Wright, Peter and Theresa Kim (100).
Dollar Ranch First Flight winners were: First Place: John Gruenstein,
John Newman, Char Gonzalez, Ann Elliott (89); Second place:
MaryJean Kidd, Joan Baggett, Margo Dutton, Lynda Pritchett (93);
Third place: Julia Kelly, Jim Kirscher, Michael Kiefer, Mary Kiefer (101);
Fourth place: Marcia Belcher, Pat Glass, Cliff Bernay, James Freeman
(105); Fifth place: Garnet Shelly, Kelvin Phillips, Gary Hargrove, Bill
Moisson (106); Sixth place: Kit Kennedy, Lauren Artress, Geri Green,
Luanna Pearson (106).

Barbara Korfhage, Lynn Rezek, Nicette Balukjian (96); Second place:
Pauline Hanley, Judy Stillman, Fred & Loc Barnes (98); Third place:
Vicky Lucas, Joanne Thorne, Mo Mobberley (99); Fourth place: Kurt
Klose, Art Hastings, Kathleen Young, Louise Chien (101); Fifth place:
Joe Cellucci, Mary Beth Hodge, Pat and Barbara Iacullo (106); Sixth
place: Toni Hessler, Norine Neyhouse, Sandy Acker, Yan Sun (106).
Closest to the Hole winners were: Creekside Flight, Hole 7: Janet
Choi and Dave Moulaison.
First Flight Dollar Ranch, Hole 16: Geri Green and Bernie Podbersky
and Stan Orlik (tied).
Second Flight Dollar Ranch, Hole 16: Sandy Acker and Fred Barnes.
Following the tournament, golfers were treated to a delicious Mexican
luncheon, at the Dollar Picnic area, catered by the Creekside Grill, of
rice, beans, chicken and beef soft tacos, chips and salsa, and a
dessert of churros.
Many people helped organize the event and thanks must be given to
Ed O’Dea, RGMC President, for coming up with the great idea; Joe
Cellucci for organizing the catering with Creekside Grill; Judy
Stillman, the Niner captain, for coordinating the Creekside course for
the event; Denise Pratt for coordinating the game with Jacque Vigil in
the Pro Shop; Esta Podberesky and Toni Snyder for collecting
donations; Mark Heptig, Jacque Vigil, and Wayne Weckerlin for
making everything run smoothly, Creekside Grill and staff for
wonderful food and service. Thank you to Laura Kim for organizing
and assisting players with sign-ups using the Golf Genius app.
After such a successful event, a repeat next year is already being
discussed.
