Rossmoor’s annual escape to the Mexican Riviera included 155 Rossmoor golfers and vacationers who enjoyed panoramic ocean views at Dreams Vallarta Bay in Puerto Vallarta for a seven day excursion leaving on Feb. 20 and returning Feb. 27. The resort offered several gourmet restaurants, a spa, beautiful beaches, local excursions and the option to play three world-class golf courses in the area.
The first round of golf took place at Vista Vallarta’s signature Jack Nicklaus golf course which offered views of Puerto Vallarta, the Marina and Banderas Bay as a backdrop for friendly competition based on “Two Best Balls of Four”. First place went to Dan and Char Gonzalez along with Jim and Katherine Gschwend. Second place went to Teddi Swanson,Joan Upshaw, Jayoung Lee and Anne Su. The longest drives were Roger Kachiu and Lissa Heptig.
El Tigre, often included in the list of Mexico’s top 10 best golf courses, was the location of the second round. This exciting championship course offers 12 holes with water features, Bermuda grass greens and lush tropical vegetation framing each fareway. The challenge was “Best 9 Holes” for the men. Dan Gonzalez came in first and David Cramer was second. Longest drives went to James Soo Hoo and Theresa Kim. Closest to the hole was Steve Haggarty and Anne Su.
The final round of golf was held at the Tom Weiskopf course at Vista Vallarta. This challenging course is a total contrast to the Nicklaus course at Vallarta with dense jungles, deep ravines and swift creeks. Players competed for best “Net Individual Stroke Play”. For the women, Jean Wright came in first and Marsha Jennings and Cindy Sonstelie tied for second. For the men, Rob Ingalls and David Jennings tied for first place with Joe Calderaro coming in third. The longest drives went to Anne Su and Bob Bratton with closest to the hole to Rich Sonstelie and Joan Binnings. Congratulations to all of the winners.
Once again, Rossmoor says “hasta luego” to Mexico until next year.
