Denise Pratt, membership chair of the 18ers, has been trying out new formats for Thursday tournaments this year. On Sept. 14, a game called Quota was played for the first time, where players attempted to reach their “quota” of points which was calculated by subtracting each player’s handicap from 40. A player with a 20 handicap would end up with a “quota” of 20, which they then attempted to match or, better yet, to beat, by getting even more points than 20.
Points were given for gross scores using the following values: hole-in-one 7, eagle 5, birdie 4, par 3, bogey 1, and double bogey or higher 0.
Winner of the first flight and also achieving the best score of the day was Joan Binnings who had a quota of 18 but ended up with 29 points, 11 more than her quota. Second place winner in the first flight went to Karla Witte with 8 points over her quota of 23. Claudia Terry won third place in the first flight with 6 points over her quota of 30. Karyl Toms was in fourth place with 1 point over her quota of 17.
Second flight winners were Ann Hamilton in first place with 9 points over her quota of 14, Jane Lee in second place with 4 points over her quota of 18, Agnes Shin in third place with 3 points over her quota of 16, and Judith Cohen in fourth place with 15 points, just 3 shy of her quota of 18.
Third flight winners were Anna Kim in first place with 5 points over her quota of 10, Xuemei Reinhart in second place with 3 points over her quota of 9, Vanida Nalamlieng in third place with 2 points over her quota of 10, and Denise Pratt in fourth place with 1 point over her quota of 7.
Fourth flight winners were Judy Fletcher in first place with 7 points over her quota of 0, MaryJean Kidd in second place with 6 points over her quota of 5, Donna Wagner in third place with 5 points over her quota of 0, and Betty Cuniberti in fourth place with with 5 points over her quota of 0.
Congratulations to all flight winners and much appreciation to Pratt for finding a fun new format for Thursday’s play day.
Chip-ins were shot by Binnings on hole 6 and by Jayoung Lee on hole 17. Birdies where shot by Pratt on hole 10 and Terry on hole 13.
