18ers Play First Day of Four Day Event
Thirty-two golfers played the first round of the 18ers’ annual match play tournament last Thursday. The field was divided into four flights, in which players competed hole by hole with one opponent. Results of the matches weren’t available by press time.
Another round of matches will be played next Thursday. Winners of the first day’s matches will be paired with each other. The rest of the field will play matches in a consolation flight. Everyone will continue to play matches until the four flight winners are determined. Those four players will compete for overall tournament champion on May 23.
The field is flighted as follows. First Flight: Grace Nitta, Janice Davis, Pat Deisem, Nancy Groswird, Inger Bjornsson, Sil Jung, Agnes Shin, Inez Scrivner. Second Flight: Jean Carroll, Soonee Kim, Janet Choi, Anna Kim, Claudia Terry, Patricia Taylor, Olivia Hsueh, Jane Lee. Third Flight: Peggy Yamada, Mary Hufford, Gail Ramirez, Del Poirier, Linda Scheffer, Bari Mantel, AiSoon Hong, Diane Matoney. Fourth Flight: Dorothy Mizono, Rena Snyder, Teruko La Pierre, Teddi Swanson, Donna Rhodes, Madeline Diero, Barbara Crane, Pil Choo.
On Thursday, May 23 the event will conclude with a lunch at Dollar Ranch where awards will be presented.
Around The World Invitational
Rossmoor Ladies’ and their guests will play in the annual Invitational on June 20. This year’s theme is “Around the World.” Sign up and pack your bags. The deadline for entry or cancellation is May 20. Envelopes and sign-up sheets are in the 18ers area of the pro shop. The cost is $80 per person including hot breakfast, tee prizes, lunch, golf, awards and a raffle ticket. Players may have up to three guests. The committee is working hard to make this a fun day for everyone.
