Three Rossmoor 18ers, Claudia Terry, Teddi Swanson and Janice Davis, participated in a fundraiser for Cal Berkeley Women’s Rugby Team on September 4, at Chardonnay Golf Club. Anticipating the extreme heat, the tournament sponsors provided plenty of cold water, and the players brought cooling towels and iced beverages, and a good time was enjoyed by all. The three women were joined by a Cal Berkeley alum, Sarah, and Aiko, wife of the Rugby Coach. Together they shot three under par, and Claudia won the long drive, closest to the hole and the putting contest in the women’s division. Chardonnay provided a delicious dinner after golf and multiple raffle prizes were awarded. Women’s Rugby at Cal is a self-funded club depending on events like this one to promote a sport that is just taking hold in the States.
This is the second annual Rugby Tournament and the committee hopes to have an even larger event next year.
