This is Claudia Terry’s  second consecutive club championship win and her second best cumulative score in the most stressful and prestigious golf event of the Rossmoor Women 18ers Golf Club. Terry posted a remarkable three-day total of 244, one stroke over her previous year’s 243, a club record for the championship. Despite the grueling heat and stress of defending her title, she states that she felt more relaxed than in other years because, having already won once, she felt that, “I might not win a second time and didn’t feel a driving need to ‘defend my title.’ I was just interested in playing my best game.” She recalls past years when she’d always have a blowup day, play some of the worst rounds of the year and go home wanting to cry. She says, “I didn’t have the burning need to outright win and it made for a much more relaxed state of mind, and nothing helps my golf game better than a relaxed state of mind.” That is sound advice for anyone who tackles the mentally challenging game of golf.

Terry is the Champion for 2022, and the runner-up is Jayoung Lee with a very good score of 262. She did herself proud by staying right on Claudia’s heels, giving solid performances for each of the three scorching days of competition. Congratulations to Jayoung! Well done.

Although, to be the Champion is the ultimate goal, the tournament is structured so that every participant has a chance to win in her flight.

Those winners are: second flight, first place, Daisy Soo Hoo and second place, Joan Binnings; third flight, first place, Anna Kim, second place, Linda Ingalls; and in the Combo flight, first place, Nancy Park and second place, Lynda Pritchett. Congratulations to all.

Notable accomplishments during the tournament  are chip-ins from Andrea Alpine, hole 7, and  Linda Ingalls hole 9. Birdies were had by Sunhi Kim on hole 4, Jayoung Lee on holes 13 and 18, Andrea Alpine and Claudia Terry on hole 2, and Linda Ingalls on hole 16.

The next notable event for the 18ers is the Breast Cancer Awareness tournament on October 6. October is Breast Cancer awareness month and the beneficiary of 18ers fundraising is the worthy HERS organization. Fundraising will be ongoing throughout the month of October beginning with October 6 when participants are asked to wear pink. Another important event in October is the Charm Tournament. On October 18, 18ers will compete for the sixth and final spot for the Charm playoff.
