Spring has sprung, and the ladies were out in force on March 31 to prove it. The annual Spring Fling is special as it is a joint tournament with the 9ers and the 18ers playing together.  This year the tournament was hosted by the 18ers and they did a first class job. The weather and playing conditions could not have been better for the women of the Rossmoor golf clubs to have a stellar day. The Event Center started buzzing at 7:45 am with 141 golfers enjoying a breakfast of Eggs, Pastries, Mini Croissant Sandwiches, Yogurt and Beverages while purchasing mulligans and magic putts, and buying raffle tickets.

The game format was a fun, and very challenging, par 3 tournament set up on each of the courses. The first and second flights played on the Dollar Ranch course while the third flight made two loops around the Creekside course. There were some tricky pin placements, and the tee boxes were placed in unfamiliar spots, which created an entirely different game. Teams consisted of 18ers and 9ers which provided a great way to play with and make new friends.

After golf, everyone returned to the Event Center for a delectable lunch of Sandwiches, Salads, Fruits and Pastries from A Sweet Affair Bakery.  Generous prizes were paid out to the top six teams in each flight as well as three closest to the pin awards. There were some great raffle items of golf lessons, terrific bottles of wine, Pro Shop gift certificates, a round of golf at Chabot Golf Club, gift baskets, and more. The highlight of the Spring Fling was a fashion show, hosted by Mark Heptig, showcasing current styles of golf attire for sale in the Pro Shop.  The six gorgeous models, Linda Ingalls, Sunhi Kim, Virginia Lawson, Erin McGlynn, Teddi Swanson, Jacqueline Roenspie, Janet Hillier and Nellie Ingraham, members of the 9ers and 18ers, did a great job…if they ever give up golf, the Paris runways will be calling them!

The Spring Fling is a huge undertaking and only made possible through the efforts of many. Denise Pratt was the Tournament Chair; Laura Kim was, as always, the Golf Genius “Guru”; Joan Binnings and Lana Yagle were super sellers of magic putts and mulligans; and Food Coordinators were Stella Chan and Agnes Shin.  Raffle ticket sales were handled by Laura Kim and Sunhi Kim’s husbands and food service and wine pouring was handled by friends of Stella Chan.  The Spring Fling Committee is grateful to Mark Heptig, Jacque Vigil and Wayne Weckerlin for all they did to help the event run smoothly. The Women’s 18ers thank all those who contributed to prizes, participated in the event and worked to make this a huge success.

Winners of the day are, First place, third flight, Peggy Yamada, Beverly Meinbress, Fran Elvin and Kit Kennedy; First place, second flight, Maryhelen Greaves, Susan Pollak, Nikki Balukjian and Jacklynn Roenspie.

First place, first flight is Anna Kim, Nancy Park, Aisoon Hong and Janet Choi. Full results may be found on the 18ers website at https://rossmoorgolf.com/womens-18-hole/hole-in-one-results/womens-18er-2022-results/
