by Joyce McCann – 18ers Rules Chair

This year, the annual Rules Seminar sponsored by the Women 18ers will
feature presentations on the Rules of Golf by Ryan Gregg, Chief Operating
Officer of the NCGA, and Suzanne Olsen, a widely experienced NCGA
Rules Official. Ryan Gregg was a member of the USGA Junior
Championship Committee for 9 years and has been a Rules Official for
over 35 USGA Championships, including the US Open, Senior Open and
US Amateur. Suzanne Olsen has broad experience teaching the Rules of
golf and as a NCGA Rules Official.
The Seminar is free and will be on Monday, August 22, from 8:30 a.m. to
11 a.m. in the Event Center. Golfers from the 18ers, 9ers, and the Men’s
Golf Club are all invited. This year, for the first time, a Raffle will be
included, with great prizes, including a $100 gift certificate from the Pro
Shop. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. for socializing, breakfast snacks, and
an opportunity to buy Raffle tickets. The Seminar will start promptly at
9 a.m. Raffle winners will be announced at the end of the Seminar.
Several years ago, a major revision in the Rules of Golf was thrust upon
us. While these changes made the Rules of Golf more “user friendly”, they
are still complex. Presenters will discuss frequently encountered but often
misunderstood Rules situations. For example, do you know when to take
relief with 2-club lengths vs 1-club length? Do you know Rules differences
for Match and Stroke play? Do you know all the options available to you if
your ball goes into a Penalty Area? Did you realize that, if you know what
to do when your ball comes to rest on a cart path, you then also know
what to do in many other situations? Golfers will be encouraged to ask
questions and discuss their experiences playing our Dollar and Creekside
courses.
